C17th music from the courts of the Habsburgs
The residences of the Habsburgs were the focus of attention of western music. At the service of the regents were composers and musicians from the whole of Europe. Numerous dedications of music prints were made to members of the Habsburg ruling family.
The works in this concert programme come from in and around the Habsburg courts, written by composers who (being excellent instrumentalists) knew how to write virtuosic music for themselves and their ensembles:
